Two people were arrested on Sunday after Monterey County sheriff’s deputies found stolen property in a travel trailer and illegal drugs inside a stolen pickup truck idling in a field outside Salinas.
Deputies traveling on Boronda Road at Madison Lane just west of Salinas at about 3 p.m. Sunday noticed a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck parked in the field with the engine running, according to sheriff’s Sgt. B.K. Pickens.
A man was sitting in the driver’s seat of the truck and a woman was his passenger, Pickens said.
Deputies ran the pickup’s California license plates and confirmed truck had been reported stolen in Fresno.
Inside the truck, deputies found a quantity of methamphetamine, a meth pipe and syringes, Pickens said.
After receiving the couple’s permission to search a nearby travel trailer, deputies recovered property allegedly stolen from the Pacific Gas & Electric Company and additional meth pipes and scales, according to deputies.
The driver of the pickup, Stephen Keith Worley, 52, was taken into custody on suspicion of receiving stolen property, possession of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, deputies said.
His passenger, Monique Benitez, 30, was arrested on some outstanding warrants for her arrest, deputies said.
