Two San Jose men were arrested in Watsonville on suspicion of leading Monterey County sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle last week, sheriff’s officials said.
Marina police made a public broadcast alerting people in the area of an armed carjacking within city limits on Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office.
On that same day, deputies located the vehicle on northbound state Highway 1 in the Moss Landing area around 1:15 p.m., sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies pursued the vehicle and a chase began that ended when the suspect stopped the car in Watsonville.
The driver, identified as 31-year-old Marcell Golden, was arrested without incident but the passenger, 36-year-old Aaron Brown, fled with a black bag, according to the sheriff’s office.
Brown led deputies on a short foot pursuit before he was apprehended, sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies found a Ruger 9mm pistol with an extended magazine loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition in the bag.
A search of the vehicle uncovered more than two pounds of marijuana, sheriff’s officials said.
Golden and Brown were both booked into county jail. Brown was found to be on parole at the time of the incident.
