The town of Danville and the San Ramon Valley Unified School District are offering a monetary reward to help find out who sprayed threatening graffiti and prompted heightened security at a middle school on Thursday.
graffiti was found last week next to Charlotte Wood Middle School on El Capitan Drive that said “I will kill 12 people on May 8,” school district officials said.
Two other copycat graffiti messages were later found at the middle school and in a boys’ bathroom at John Baldwin Elementary School on Brookside Drive.
Police apprehended a boy believed to be behind one of the copycat messages but are still seeking the person or people behind the initial graffiti.
“This person may think that what they did was a simple prank,” police Chief Steve Simpkins said in a statement. “But the reality is they threatened the safety of people in our community and we do not take that lightly.”
Police increased patrols at area schools and some parents opted to keep their children home from school Thursday.
“This situation has caused a lot of anxiety in our community,” school district superintendent Mary Shelton said. “It is our hope that by offering this reward, someone in the community with information will come forward and help us bring this situation to a close.”
