A man is behind bars on suspicion of killing his 62-year-old roommate after a fight in their Oakley home on Thursday, a sheriff’s spokesman said today. Emanuel Ramirez, 38, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday in connection with the killing of Rogelio Amador, according to Contra Costa County sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee.
Oakley police officers responded to reports of a disturbance and fight at a home in the first block of Amador Avenue around 3:55 p.m. and found the victim lying on the ground suffering from undisclosed injuries. Officers and other emergency responders rendered medical aid but Amador succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Contra Costa County coroner’s office is conducting an autopsy on his body today. Marine Patrol sheriff’s deputies in the area spotted a man who matched the suspect description and identified him as Ramirez. He was taken to county jail in Martinez where he is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. Lee said detectives have not determined the exact motive for the fight, and the investigation is ongoing.
