A taxi driver was arrested in Aptos on Monday for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a female passenger he picked up at Capitola Village, Santa Cruz County sheriff’s officials said today. According to the sheriff’s office, Salvador Ceja Rocha, a driver for the Village Cab taxi service, picked up the woman at about 1 a.m. on April 20 and drove her to a secluded area of Nicene Marks State Park in Aptos.
The woman told sheriff’s deputies that she struggled with Rocha and was able to get out of the cab, then Rocha drove away. After an investigation into the incident, deputies contacted Rocha on Monday and arrested him on suspicion of assault with attempt to commit a felony sex act.
Deputies said Rocha often worked night hours as a cab driver and investigators believe there may be other sexual assault victims in the area based on the contact Rocha has had with various passengers in the area.
