Police arrested a DUI driver after he fled the scene of a crash in Petaluma on Saturday afternoon, a police sergeant said.

At about 12:45 p.m. police received multiple calls from citizens who reported seeing a driver speeding in the area of Ely Boulevard South, Petaluma police Sgt. Marty Frye said.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle was a white Nissan Pathfinder. It appeared to have been in an accident that caused major damage to the driver’s side and a flat tire on the right front wheel, Frye said.

A caller reported that the vehicle had collided with a parked trailer in the 800 block of Ely Boulevard South. Officers arrived on the scene and found a parked, unoccupied trailer with a considerable amount of damage.

Frye said that a path of debris led officers from the collision to the 100 block of Rancho Bonito Circle, where officers located the suspect vehicle in the driveway of a residence.

The vehicle had major damage and the right front wheel had no tire, Frye said.

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Conner Zitelli, of Petaluma, was standing next to the vehicle when police arrived. When Zitelli saw the officers, he fled inside the home.

Zitelli came out of the residence a short time later and was arrested without further incident.

The suspect’s blood alcohol content was found to be twice the legal limit. He was charged with driving under the influence, hit-and-run and resisting arrest, Frye said.

Zitelli was transported to Sonoma County Jail with bail set at $5,000.
