Mountain View police have arrested a man they said was involved in two kidnappings Sunday. Kenneth Middlebrook, 23, of Mountain View, was taken into custody Monday on suspicion of two counts of kidnapping, two counts of robbery and one count of battery. The first incident occurred Sunday when police said Middlebrook approached a woman in the driveway of her San Jose home and convinced her to drive him in his own vehicle to Mountain View.

The victim told investigators Middlebrook became agitated when they reached Mountain View and held the victim against her will. She said she told Middlebrook she would drive him anywhere he wanted to go, then she purposely crashed into another vehicle while on a highway. The woman escaped from the vehicle when she pulled over after the crash and Middlebrook fled in his car before authorities arrived on scene.

Police said Middlebrook’s vehicle was located abandoned in a nearby parking lot. On Monday, police received a call about another Sunday kidnapping in which a man, later identified as Middlebrook, entered a woman’s home in Mountain View and forced her into her car.

The second victim told police Middlebrook forced her to drive him around for several hours before she was able to escape when they stopped in Ione. The victims were not seriously injured in the incidents. Police are asking anyone who may have also been a victim of similar incidents to contact the Mountain View Police Department at (650) 903-6344 and reference case number 14-2233.
