The US Marshal’s Office is currently seeking Janet and Ramon Barreto on warrants charging them with alleged manslaughter in connection with the death of their 2 year old daughter Enna Barreto in Union County, Mississippi in 2008.
They also are accused of abusing eight other children and running a puppy mill. Marshals report that from 2005 to 2006, Barreto and her husband, Ramon Barreto, are suspected of traveling to Guatemala on multiple occasions to purchase children from a local adoption agency.
Upon returning to the United States, the children were allegedly physically abused, malnourished and forced to sleep in deplorable conditions. The children were purportedly often punished with beatings and on various occasions duct-taped to their beds, punched in the stomach and forced to endure having their heads submerged under water.
In 2008, the abuse led to the death of one of their adopted children, a 2-year-old girl Enna Barreto.
Detectives report they were arrested and then freed on bail. They then fled and are still at large. They were last believed to be hiding in California.
Janet Barreto needs to use insulin and always wears black clothing. She is described as being about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 300 pounds. She may be using the alias of Victoria or Vicky. She has thin black hair but is known to wear blond wigs.
Ramon Barreto is about the same height as his wife and weighs close to 140 pounds. He has used the names Ramiro, Juan and Christian.
