A 17-year-old boy pleaded not guilty today to a murder charge for the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old woman in East Oakland on New Year’s Eve.

Dashawn Cooper is scheduled to return to Alameda County Superior Court on April 28 for a pretrial hearing on the allegation that he shot Ashlee Walker in the 2000 block of 22nd Avenue in Oakland’s San Antonio neighborhood at about 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 31.

Walker was transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland, where she died from her injuries a short time later.

In addition to the murder charge for Walker’s death, Cooper is charged with three counts of attempted murder for allegedly firing shots at three people who were with her, although they weren’t injured.

He is being held in custody without bail.
