One person is dead and another was injured by gunfire this morning in Richmond and police are looking into whether the shootings were connected, a police sergeant said. Officers responded to a Shot Spotter activation in the 1300 block of Coalinga Avenue at about 1 a.m., Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.
When officers arrived, they found the owner of the property, a multi-use structure with a business in the front and a residence in the back, suffering from gunshot wounds to the leg, Abetkov said. The man was airlifted to a hospital to be treated for his serious injuries and is expected to survive, according to Abetkov. Abetkov said police later learned a vehicle arrived at another hospital with a victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
That person was pronounced dead shortly after, she said. Investigators are continuing to gather information to determine whether the two gunshot victims are connected, and what exactly happened at the multi-use property incident, Abetkov said. Further details were not immediately available.
