Three suspects have been arrested and two have been charged with the apparent gang-related murder of a 36-year-old man near an Antioch liquor store earlier this month, a police lieutenant said today.

Antonio Ayala, 18, and 17-year-old Anthony Perez were arrested last week on suspicion of murder for the fatal shooting of Rushawn Thomas near Joe’s Liquor & Foods at 1911 D St. on April 8, Antioch police Acting Lt. Tony Morefield said.

Both are in custody in county jail and have been charged with murder. Their arraignment was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today in Contra Costa County Superior Court in Martinez.

Police arrested another man this morning in connection with the killing.

A SWAT team served a high-risk search warrant at a home in the 1400 block of D Street, according to Morefield. Officers detained eight suspects but only arrested the man, who has not been identified.

Morefield said the killing appears to have been gang-related and that an investigation into the homicide is ongoing.

The lieutenant did not say whether any other suspects were believed to be at large.
