A 55-year-old man who was wounded in a shooting in Bay Point earlier this month has died from his injuries, a Contra Costa County coroner’s deputy said this morning.

The Bay Point man, whose name has not been released, succumbed to his injuries on Friday. Deputies had found him on April 4 suffering from a gunshot wound in front of a home on North Broadway Avenue, authorities said.

He was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

Deputies arrested 59-year-old Patrick Laughlin, of Bay Point, on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the shooting.

Laughlin was taken to county jail in Martinez, where he remains in custody on $1.6 million bail. He has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a firearm and multiple enhancements for use of a firearm and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Laughlin apparently knew the victim and had been arguing with him prior to the shooting, according to Contra Costa County sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee.
