Police are investigating a large quantity of marijuana discovered in a refrigerator that caught fire in an East Oakland warehouse this morning.

The Oakland Fire Department responded to the fire at 6:08 a.m. in the 400 block of Pendleton Way near Oakland International Airport, according to fire Capt. Lester Mahoney.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered 23 cubic feet of packaged marijuana in the refrigerator and alerted the Police Department, Mahoney said.

The 25 responding firefighters quickly contained the fire in about 20 minutes, Mahoney said. The cause of the fire is unknown.

The warehouse owner reported the fire, according to Mahoney, who said the warehouse has several tenants.

Police are looking into who was renting the space, said Oakland police Officer Johnna Watson.

No arrests have been made.
