Two armed men wearing caps and masks robbed a crowded bank in Campbell on Tuesday before fleeing in a stolen car that police later found a short distance away, a police sergeant said. The robbery was reported at 11:08 a.m. Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Bank at 1790 S. Bascom Ave., where two suspects with handguns, gray beanies and black masks ordered employees and customers to the ground, Sgt. Dave Berg said.
More than 25 employees and customers were inside the bank at the time of the robbery, Berg said. The suspects directed bank employees to turn over cash and then fled to the parking lot into a dark-colored Honda driven by a third suspect, according to Berg. Police located the Honda less than a quarter-mile away from the bank but could not find the suspects, who may have driven away in a second vehicle, Berg said.
The getaway car had been reported stolen, Berg said. Campbell police detectives are investigating the robbery and are examining surveillance video taken by the bank, he said.
