An Oakland man has been charged with murder and attempted murder for a shooting near Highland Hospital in Oakland in February, according to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.

Harold Thomas Smith, 22, is accused of killing Innocent Okoronkwo Jr., 24, and injuring a 26-year-old man in a shooting in the 2400 block of 14th Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 22.

Smith, who was arrested on April 1, is also charged with intentionally discharging a firearm to cause Okoronkwo’s death, an enhancement that could add 25 years to his state prison term if he is convicted.

In addition, Smith is charged with unlawful firearm activity for allegedly possessing a firearm while on probation for his conviction for second-degree robbery in May 2008, when he was a juvenile.

He is being held without bail at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
