A 36-year-old man who was shot and killed in Pittsburg on Thursday night was the victim of a past shooting and had gang ties, a police lieutenant said today.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2900 block of Stevenson Street around 9:15 p.m. and found the victim, later identified as Seluis Zuniga of Pittsburg, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, Pittsburg police Lt. Ron Raman said.

Emergency responders rendered medical aid but the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Zuniga had been walking near his home when a suspect confronted and shot him, Raman said.

Raman said the victim had several drug and weapons-related convictions, is associated with a gang, and survived a 2000 shooting in Antioch.

The lieutenant said investigators believe Zuniga was the intended target of the Thursday night shooting and are looking into whether it was gang-related.

The killing is Pittsburg’s first homicide this year.
