A suspect in a residential burglary in San Leandro remains at large this evening after evading police officers during a pursuit, authorities said.

Police said that at 12:10 p.m. today they were notified that a suspect had committed a burglary at a home on Karol Way and a witness told them that the suspect fled the area in a car that was headed toward East 14th Street.

Officers located the suspect’s vehicle and attempted a traffic enforcement stop but the driver fled from them and led them on a short pursuit in the downtown area, police said.

The suspect’s vehicle subsequently crashed into a parked car on Castro Street near Williams Street and the suspect fled on foot into the residential area just south of that intersection, according to police.

Officers set up a perimeter around that area and conducted a yard search utilizing a search dog but at this time the suspect has not yet been located or identified, police said.
