A 17-year-old boy was found dying from a gunshot wound outside Highland Hospital early this morning, according to police. Police officers were flagged down outside the hospital at about 12:16 a.m. to find the Oakland resident suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was taken into the hospital, located at 1411 E. 31st St., but died a short time later, police said.

At about the same time, a 22-year-old Oakland man walked into the same emergency room with a gunshot wound. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said. Police are trying to determine if the two shootings are related. It is possible that one or both victims were shot near Interstate Highway 580 and 14th Avenue, but police have not confirmed a shooting location for either victim.
