Three Bay Point residents have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in Bay Point Sunday evening, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s office detectives have arrested Melquiades Garza, 33, on suspicion of murder, and Miguel Alejo Rico, 26, and Gerardo Hinojosa, 25, on suspicion of conspiracy and being an accessory, sheriff’s office spokesman Jimmy Lee said today.

Rico also faces a drug violation charge and Hinojosa a charge for receiving stolen property. Bail was set at $1.5 million for Garza, $1,505,000 for Rico and $1,520,000 for Hinojosa, Lee said. The three were charged in connection with a shooting that occurred around 11 p.m. on the first block of Mountain View Avenue. Responding deputies found a man and a woman at the scene, both of whom had been shot.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and is reported to be in stable condition, Lee said. The Contra Costa County coroner’s office is still working to identify the male victim, Lee said.
