A man who was kicked out of a bar a block from San Jose State University early Sunday was hit by a bottle and stabbed by a group of people who followed him and began a fight, San Jose police have reported. Officers were called to an area near S. 3rd Street and San Fernando in downtown San Jose at 12:39 a.m. Sunday and found the injured victim, according to police.

The man had been in a nearby bar and was ejected from it by bouncers after allegedly causing a disturbance with several bar patrons. The patrons he had the confrontation with are believed to have pursued the after he left the establishment, police said. The suspects then started to fight with the man in the street, at first punching and kicking him, according to police.

The man was then hit across the face with a bottle, causing a laceration, and stabbed with a sharp object before all of the suspects fled the scene. Emergency responders transported the man to a local hospital with injuries not considered life threatening and the incident is under investigation, police said.
