A 35-year-old man was arrested this morning outside a house in Salinas on suspicion of murdering a man who died of multiple gunshot wounds Tuesday night, police said. Antonio Martinez was taken into custody at 1:35 a.m. today and booked into the Monterey County Jail on suspicion of the shooting death of 47-year-old Juan Carlos Pedraza, according to police Cmdr. Vincent Maiorana.

Officers, assisted by the Police Department’s Violence Suppression Unit and SWAT team, located Martinez as he came out of his home at 18495 Kennedy Street in Salinas, the commander said. Police received a report at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday about a gunshot victim and located Pedraza lying in the 700 block of Towt Street at Del Monte Avenue. Officers were unable to resuscitate Pedraza and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

From an investigation, police believe that Pedraza had been walking near his Salinas home when the suspect confronted and shot him. Police are looking for additional witnesses and are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact Detective Brian Johnson at (831) 758-7143 or Detective Robert Zuniga at (831) 758-7276.
