Three Fremont schools were placed on lockdown this morning after a teenage boy near a middle school campus threatened to fight a man and claimed to have a gun, police said. Centerville Junior High School, Washington High School and Holy Spirit School were all put on lockdown for about an hour this morning, according to police. Police said the lockdowns came after a call around 9:20 a.m. from a man reporting that he had encountered a teenage boy on a bicycle across from Centerville Junior High in the 37700 block of Fremont Boulevard who challenged him to a fight and claimed to have a gun.

Officers arrived on the scene and immediately put Centerville Junior High on lockdown. The other two schools were placed on lockdown a short time later as a precaution. Police searched the area and found a teen matching the suspect description around on Eggers Drive around 10 a.m. The suspect, a 15-year-old boy, denied having a weapon and officers were unable to locate one. Officers took the boy into custody for questioning. Police are investigating the incident as a threat of a violent crime and are holding the teen pending further investigation. The school lockdowns were lifted around 10:15 a.m., according to police.
