A 33-year-old man armed with a pistol was arrested Saturday in Palo Alto after attempting to flee from police who observed a container of marijuana protruding from his jacket, according to police. Courtney Bradshaw Jr., of East Palo Alto, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm with a prior felony conviction, possessing a firearm while subject to a restraining order and possession of a firearm by a narcotics user, police said.
Bradshaw was also arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm without being listed as its registered owner and for resisting arrest. At 9:32 a.m. Saturday, patrol officers contacted Bradshaw, who had passed out on a bench at a bus depot at 95 University Ave., and noticed a jar sticking out of his jacket with marijuana inside, police said.
The officers then attempted to search Bradshaw for additional marijuana but he got up and ran, then fell to the ground about 15 yards away, police said. When officers reached Bradshaw, they struggled with him as he appeared to reach for his waistband, but were able to place him under arrest and found a loaded .22-caliber handgun in his front pants pocket.
