Police are looking for two people who robbed El Charrito Market at gunpoint in Salinas on Wednesday afternoon.

The two suspects, one armed with a handgun, entered the market at 122 West Market St. and ordered customers to the ground, according to police.

The unarmed suspect took money and bags from the customers and stuffed the items into a large backpack he had brought with him, police said.

He also walked behind the store counter and took money from the register, according to police.

Both suspects fled the scene in a BMW and drove west on Market Street before abandoning the vehicle at Villa and Market streets, police said.

Witnesses told officers that they saw two men running from the car, which police later learned was stolen.
