A 19-year-old man who fled the scene of a collision and led a police officer on a car chase was arrested in Santa Rosa on Saturday evening, a police sergeant said. An officer flagged down a motorist who was involved in a collision in the area of West Steele and Hardies lanes around 7 p.m., Sgt. Josh Ludtke said.
The motorist was behind another car driven by the 19-year-old man who was involved in the collision and fled the scene, Ludtke said. The officer attempted a traffic stop on the car that sped away and a pursuit began on Guernville Road and continued south on Dutton Avenue, he said.
The 19-year-old man was driving past several red lights at speeds of up to 60 mph before he was stopped at Boyce Street and Dutton Avenue where he was arrested without incident, Ludtke said. The man, a Santa Rosa resident, had no other passengers in the vehicle, according to Ludtke.
He was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of felony evasion, misdemeanor hit and run and driving without a license. No injuries were reported during the incident.
