A 19-year-old woman was airlifted to a hospital after she was struck by gunfire Monday night in Watsonville, police said. Officers responded to a report of a victim suffering from a gunshot wound in the 200 block of Carey Avenue at about 11:55 p.m. Monday, according to police. Police said responding officers found a 19-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper thigh.
An investigation learned multiple shots were fired into the home where the woman was and witnesses saw roughly three people fleeing the area after the shooting, police said. The woman was in the kitchen at the time of the shooting and was helped by another family member who called 911.
The victim was airlifted to a hospital to be treated for her injuries. Her condition was not immediately available. No one else was injured in the shooting, police said. Police said the suspects were not found in a subsequent search. The shooting is not believed to be gang related.
