San Leandro police serving search warrants in Richmond and San Leandro last Wednesday uncovered a marijuana grow of 1,800 plants, police said today. At about 8 a.m. Wednesday, detectives served a warrant in the 400 block of McCormick Street in San Leandro and found the plants. Police estimated the street value of the seized pot at $2.1 million.

Police arrested two suspects in connection with the grow operation, identified as Ken Dao and Thiet Nong, both of Richmond. Investigators also seized $50,884 in cash. The power source at the warehouse where the grow op was set up had been illegally altered and was potentially a fire hazard, police said. “This marijuana cultivation operation was being conducted in a busy warehouse district and we are fortunate nobody was hurt,” police Lt. Randall Brandt said.
