An Amber Alert for a 12-year-old boy who was abducted from Long Beach Thursday was canceled Monday after he was found safe in Oceanside. His mother was immediately taken into custody and charged with kidnapping.
Nicholas Johnston was set to be reunited with his father Monday evening.
The 12-year-old boy was abducted by his mother, identified as 49-year-old Sri Ann Johnston, according to Long Beach police. They were found in Oceanside Monday around 2:40 p.m. by the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force.
Sri has since been charged with one count each of kidnapping and child custody deprivation.
Prosecutors said Sri picked up her son for a visitation on Wednesday, but did not take him to school the next day. Sri and her son were missing for several days, which set off the Amber Alert Monday afternoon.
Nicholas was described as a 12-year-old white male, standing around 4 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 80 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.
The suspect was described as a white female, standing around 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighing about 125 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Sri was said to be driving a tan 1998 Saturn four-door sedan with California license plate 4AUU679.
If convicted as charged, Sri faces a maximum sentence of 13 years and eight months in state prison.
