Man Arrested for Alleged Kidnapping After Police Find His Mother in the Trunk of His Car



Regelio Lopez, 20, was arrested for kidnapping and locking his mother in a Cadillac at a rest stop along Interstate 95 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, on February 25.

Highway patrol officers were told a Cadillac had been involved in an abduction in Virginia Beach. The vehicle was headed south and was spotted around 6:30 p.m. at a rest stop along I-95 near Santee. Police found a women in the trunk.

Regelio told police he had driven from Virginia and had put his mother into the trunk somewhere along the way. When she tried to escape at a Dairy Queen in Clarendon County, he punched her in the ribs and chest and forced her back to the trunk. He was arrested at the next rest stop.

The kidnapped woman, who has not been identified, was reportedly in good condition after the ordeal. Regelio will be held in Orangeburg County Detention Center before being sent bak to Virginia to face charges. It is not known why he abducted her.
