A woman was pistol-whipped by a man who fired his gun at a San Mateo motel early Saturday morning, according to police. Police responded to reports of a woman screaming and shots fired at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday at the Best Value Inn located at 140 N. Bayshore Blvd. They found a 23-year-old Oakland woman who had been pistol-whipped and seriously injured, police said.
Her injuries were not life-threatening. A suspect in the shooting had fled the area, described as a black man in his late 20s standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall with an average build, police said. He had a semi-automatic gun that he fired at least once during the incident but no one was hit by gunfire. Investigators are looking into whether the suspect is involved in prostitution, police said. Police searched for the suspect but he got away.
