Police are investigating a report of a man who tried to lure a young girl into his van in front of an Oakley elementary school this morning.

A 9-year-old Orchard Park Elementary School student told school officials that she was walking near the school’s drop-off zone at 5150 Live Oak Ave. around 8 a.m. when a man in a van drove up and offered her a ride, according to Contra Costa County sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee.

The girl refused the offer and reported the incident to school staff, who then called Oakley police.

The van left school grounds and officers were unable to locate the vehicle, Lee said.

The girl described the suspect as a black man in his 30s with long braids or dreadlocks and green eyes, according to the sheriff’s office. He was said to be wearing a white 49ers cap, a blue and white scarf, green jacket and black pants at the time of the incident.

The suspect vehicle was described as an older-model blue van.
