Juan Martinez of Morgan Hill arrested for allegedly assaulting another man with a shovel

A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assaulting another man with a shovel early Sunday morning, police said. Officers responded to the 90 block of Bisceglia Avenue and found a man struck in the face and head by a shovel around 12:15 a.m., according to police. The victim, identified as a 30-year-old man from San Jose, was transported for injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, police said.

Officers canvassed the neighborhood and a witness gave key information that led to the arrest of 24-year-old Juan Martinez of Morgan Hill, according to police. Martinez was found hiding on the roof of a residence, police said. An investigation revealed that the victim and Martinez were involved in a physical altercation after a night of heavy drinking, according to police. He was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
