The man who was shot and killed while allegedly trying to break into an East San Jose home last Thursday as been identified as 22-year-old James Zamudio, police said today. Zamudio, a San Jose resident, had been dropped off at a hospital after a resident in the 3500 block of Pine Ridge Way reported firing a shot at an intruder attempting to enter his home just before 8 p.m. Thursday, police said.
The resident said that he fired a gun in the direction of the suspect and that two people then got into a vehicle and sped away, police Officer Albert Morales said. Officers at first did not find the suspects or the vehicle but later learned that a man, identified as Zamudio, had been dropped off at a hospital and was declared dead from at least one gunshot wound, Morales said. Police believe that Zamudio was involved in the incident at Pine Ridge Way, Morales said. The death is being investigated as the city’s eighth homicide of the year, Morales said.
