Police arrested two Oakland men in possession of merchandise stolen from a Walmart in Martinez after the suspects led police on a vehicle pursuit that ended in the suspect vehicle crashing in unincorporated Contra Costa County on Saturday, police said.
At about 12:50 p.m. an employee at a Martinez Walmart located at 1021 Arnold Drive called police reporting a theft. The employee told officers that two male suspects left the store without paying for numerous items of clothing. They placed the stolen merchandise into a vehicle, described as a small light-colored Toyota sedan, according to police. Officers located the car nearby and attempted to stop the driver but he failed to yield, police said.
Police pursued the driver until the he lost control, causing the car to roll over at Cummings Skyway and Franklin Canyon Road near Hercules. The two suspects, identified as Dejon Wilkes, 23, and Dominique Ewing, 24, both out of Oakland, were arrested without further incident. The stolen merchandise was recovered inside the car and returned to Walmart.
