Five Oakland juveniles were arrested in San Leandro Wednesday for allegedly joyriding in a vehicle that had been stolen in an Oakland carjacking earlier that day. A patrol officer spotted the stolen car in the 1200 block of Marina Boulevard at about 10:30 a.m., San Leandro Police Lt. Randall Brandt said. Brandt said the officer attempted to stop the vehicle and it fled. A car chase ensued and ended in the area of East 14th Street and Fairmont Drive.
Five juvenile occupants attempted to flee on foot but were all located and arrested, Brandt said. The officer’s patrol car was equipped with a license plate reading system, allowing police to locate the stolen car, according to Brandt. Alameda County sheriff’s deputies assisted in the search of the suspects.
