A San Jose man killed Sunday in a hit-and-run collision that followed a fight at a flea market has been identified as 23-year-old Eric Vallejo, according to police. His death is being investigated as the city’s seventh homicide of the year, according to Officer Albert Morales. Vallejo was killed Sunday and two others were injured in a dispute that started at a San Jose flea market and then continued on city streets where two men were hit by a car and one was stabbed, police said.

At 3:07 p.m. Sunday, San Jose police received an emergency call reporting that a driver had struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Snell Avenue and Capitol Expressway and then fled the scene. Officers arrived at the intersection and found a man lying on the ground and bleeding, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators learned that two groups of people had confronted each other earlier that day at the Capitol Flea Market at 3630 Hillcap Ave.

in South San Jose, Morales said. Security officers at the flea market had ordered both groups to leave the premises, Morales said. However the same two groups soon confronted each another again near Snell and Capitol and began fighting, Morales said. A driver then struck one of the men involved with a vehicle, and members of both groups got into their cars and fled, police said.

A short time later, two men turned up at Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center at 250 Hospital Parkway. One was suffering from at least one stab wound and the other had injuries consistent with being hit by a car, police said. Both are expected to survive. Officers later determined that both men had participated in the fight at Snell and Capitol, but their relationship with the man who died is not yet known, police said.

  • Andrew Eric’s “family” left Eric to die took off and told NOBODY! Eric passed at 3pm and his family wasn’t notified until 3am the next day. I hope Andrew and his girlfriend rot in HELL.

  • Not sure what story you are reading perhaps you need to stay in school to help out with your comprehension. And yes we believe you that 12 people confronted them for not reason. Yes , YES that happens daily. /sarc off

  • Please in memory of Eric Vallejo can the story be told correctly? Andrew Reynoso was with Eric Vallejo at the flea market when they were approached by 12 other males. The 12 other began a confrontation with Eric and Andrew. The fight did escalate to the streets where Eric had to fight for his life. Now Andrew and Eric are basicly family they grew up together. I seriously doubt he would even think of killing his family. The other 12 unknown have taken a life and are still free to run around and do it again! This is a total outrage! The family has lost 2 young lifes and these boys names are being draged through the mud! The Vallejo family is hurting. Not to mention that, because the way this story has been told the family CAN NOT get assistance with paying for Erics service. I really hope that justice will be served on the people whom actually done this instead of just blaming it on Andrew because its the only name and positive ID that they have! Rest in peace Eric, you will be missed
