A man fatally shot Sunday morning in unincorporated San Pablo has been identified by the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office as 28-year-old Chadwick Brice.

Deputies responded to Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo around 3 a.m. Sunday after receiving a report that a man, Brice, had arrived with multiple gunshot wounds, sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

Brice was transferred from Doctors Medical Center to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek where he succumbed to his injuries around 9:20 a.m., Lee said.

Lee said deputies on Sunday arrested 28-year-old Benicia man Beal Xavier Hickman.

Hickman was formally charged Tuesday by the district attorney’s office with one count of murder with a firearm enhancement, according to Lee.

Lee said Hickman is being held in lieu of $1,320,000 bail.

Detectives have not yet determined a motive for the shooting, but Lee said Brice and Hickman knew each other.

The murder initially was thought to have occurred on Tullibee Court in Rodeo but Lee said it has been determined the shooting happened at an apartment complex on Crestwood Drive in unincorporated San Pablo.
