A 13-year-old boy is expected to survive a shooting Friday in Watsonville but lost his eye, police said. The boy was critically injured in the shooting at 7:55 p.m. in the first block of Loughead Street and was rushed to a hospital for surgery, according to police. He is stable after surgery but a bullet hit him in the eye, which was replaced with a prosthetic eye, according to police.

Police have still not been able to interview the boy and could not provide a description of any possible suspects. The shooting is believed to be gang-related. Police said that a group of males believed to be gang members approached the victim and shot him without provocation. Investigators do not believe the victim is affiliated with a gang.
