Police negotiators have been sent to a hilly Greenbrae neighborhood adjacent to U.S. Highway 101 where an armed man has barricaded himself inside a home, a police spokeswoman said. Officers responded to a domestic dispute involving a husband and wife in the 300 block of Via La Cumbre at about 2:45 p.m., Central Marin Police Authority Sgt. Julie Gorwood said.
The man, who is believed to have at least one gun, barricaded himself inside the residence, and a special response team was called in along with a crisis team, Gorwood said. “We’re still on scene, the situation’s contained,” Gorwood said at about 6:15 p.m. The man remains holed up in the house and Gorwood said she believes nearby homes have been evacuated.
Via La Cumbre has been shut down, and people are asked to avoid the area. No injuries have been reported and there is no apparent threat to neighborhood residents, Gorwood said. “We’re still trying to work toward a positive resolution at this time,” she said. She said police are keeping neighborhood residents updated on the situation via Twitter, Nixle and Nextdoor.com.
