Police are searching for a suspect who shot a male victim multiple times near Powell Street in downtown San Francisco this evening, a police spokesman said. At about 7:15 p.m., San Francisco police responded to the scene of a shooting just outside the Westfield Mall in the 800 block of Market Street near Powell Street, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

Arriving officers found a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Shyy. The suspect fled the area on foot and remains at large, Shyy said. The Powell Street BART station was temporarily shut down but has since reopened, BART officials said.
