A 32-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of indecent exposure and committing lewd acts after he was allegedly spotted driving naked in the parking lot of a large mall in Salinas, a police commander said. Salinas police arrested Francisco Moreno after finding him naked from the waist down inside his car in the parking lot of the Northridge Mall at 796 Northridge Mall in Salinas, Cmdr. Henry Gomez said. At 6:55 p.m. on Wednesday, Salinas police received a call from an off-duty mall security officer about a completely naked man inside a vehicle in the mall parking lot, Gomez said.

The off-duty officer had seen Moreno driving around in a green Honda in the northeastern section of the lot, police said. Mall security officers monitored Moreno on surveillance cameras before police arrived and he was observed committing lewd acts on himself while seated in the car, according to police. When police officers contacted him, Moreno was unclothed from the waist down, Gomez said. In addition to arresting him on suspicion of indecent exposure and lewd acts, both misdemeanors, officers arrested him for violating his probation from a prior conviction for possessing marijuana for sale, Gomez said. Police found no evidence that Moreno had approached anyone while in his car, according to Gomez.
