Police this morning arrested a suspect in a gang-related shooting that injured a teenager in south Santa Rosa on Tuesday afternoon.
Edgard Rodriguez Alonzo, 25, was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder with gang enhancements, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Eric Goldschlag said.
Police responded to reports of a shooting in the 900 block of Milton Street at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. They found no victims, and the shooter was gone, but witnesses said there had been a confrontation between rival gangs and that a person had been shot and carried away by friends, Goldschlag said.
Staff at a local hospital called police at 6 p.m. to report that a shooting victim had been dropped off at the emergency room, Goldschlag said. The victim, a 17-year-old, was in critical condition and was rushed into surgery.
Detectives responded to the hospital and learned the identity of the suspect, then obtained a $1 million arrest warrant for Alonzo as well as a warrant to search his home, located a few blocks from the shooting scene, Goldschlag said.
A police SWAT team arrested Alonzo at his residence. Goldschlag said Alonzo is a gang member and has a violent criminal history.
The shooting is still under investigation.
