Parts of the Stanford University campus have been evacuated as police investigate a suspicious package that was found there this morning, Stanford police said. Campus police received a report of a suspicious package near the Tresidder Memorial Union building around 8:55 a.m., and a bomb squad was on scene as of 11 a.m., police said.

A statement on the university’s emergency information web page said the Tressider building and several nearby buildings have been evacuated and the occupants of buildings along the campus’ Salvatierra Walk have been asked to shelter in place “out of an abundance of caution.” The buildings could remain closed until after noon, according to the statement.
