A 19-year-old man was arrested in unincorporated Watsonville after barricading himself inside a market with a victim on Thursday and refusing to come out for several hours, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded just after 11 a.m. Thursday to a silent alarm at G’s Market, located at 120 Salinas Road.

The victim and suspect were still in the business when deputies arrived. The victim managed to exit the store uninjured, leaving the suspect inside, according to the sheriff’s office. After about three hours of negotiations, the suspect, identified as John Piduca, walked out of the store and surrendered, sheriff’s officials said. Piduca was transported to Natividad Medical Center for evaluation.
