A San Francisco man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of carjacking a vehicle in Marin City, a Marin County sheriff’s lieutenant said.

Deputies responded around 2 p.m. to a report of two people fighting in the road near Drake Avenue and Donahue Street, Lt. Jamie Scardina said.

A woman said she left the vehicle’s motor running and its door unlocked when she parked it, and saw a man standing next to it when she returned a minute later, Scardina said.

The woman said she asked the man if he needed anything, and he quickly entered the vehicle and tried to drive away, Scardina said.

While the car was moving, the woman opened the driver’s door and pulled the man from the vehicle and onto the ground, Scardina said.

Deputies then found a vehicle not far from the carjacking incident that was reported stolen in San Francisco earlier in the day, Scardina said.

When deputies arrested Nicholas Thomason, 31, of San Francisco, for carjacking, they found him in possession of bank statements belonging to the owner of the vehicle that was stolen in San Francisco, Scardina said.

Thomason also had bolt cutters and a pry bar in his possession, Scardina said.

He was booked into Marin County jail on suspicion of carjacking, and the sheriff’s office is recommending Thomason be charged with possession of stolen property and burglary tools, Scardina said.
