A man was shot and injured in front of a smoke shop in Vallejo on Tuesday afternoon, police said. Officers responded to reports of a shooting at about 1:15 p.m. in front of a smoke shop located at 38 Tennessee St., according to police. Upon arrival, the officers found the victim injured and discovered the suspect had fled on foot. The victim was taken to an area trauma center where he underwent emergency surgery.
A two-man detective unit searching the area found the suspect, who discarded his handgun when he saw the detectives, police said. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Austin Edward Headley of Vallejo, was arrested and booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of a stolen firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and probation violation.
