Jristoff Torres and Hector Villanueva-Casillas arrested for alleged attempted car theft in San Leandro

Two men were arrested during an attempted car theft in San Leandro on Saturday morning, according to police. An officer patrolling the area of Diehl Avenue and Dowling Boulevard around 1 a.m. Saturday saw a car drop off a person and drive away, police said.

The person, later identified as 21-year-old Hector Villanueva-Casillas, walked to a nearby residential neighborhood and officers saw him try to break into a parked vehicle, according to police. Officers approached Villanueva-Casillas and found him with a tool commonly used to break into cars, police said. Officers also found the car that dropped off Villanueva-Casillas in the area and arrested the driver, identified as 19-year-old Jristoff Torres, police said.

Villanueva-Casillas and Torres, both Oakland residents, were arrested for attempted auto theft. Villanueva-Casillas was also arrested for possession of burglary tools, according to police. Both men were booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
