Oakland police are still looking for a 14-year-old boy suspected of killing his 17-year-old sister in the city’s Chinatown on Thursday and said today he is considered armed and dangerous. Mario Toliver Jr. remains at large today after his sister, identified by family as Justice Toliver, was shot in their apartment at 801 Franklin St. at about 12:15 p.m. Thursday, police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said.
Mario is described as a black boy who is 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. Watson said that police have not located the gun that Mario allegedly used to kill his sister. The siblings’ cousin, Marianna Gaston, 22, of Oakland, said Thursday that she had been told Mario was mad at his sister for bleaching her clothes.
When she first heard about the shooting, Gaston said she thought it was “a joke” and asked, “Why would he kill her over that?” Standing outside the 12-story apartment building several hours after the shooting, Gaston said, “Nothing makes sense. It doesn’t add up.”
