A funeral is being held in Oakland this morning for the city’s first homicide victim of 2014, 13-year-old Lee Weathersby III. Lee died at a hospital the morning of Jan. 1 after being injured in a shooting on New Year’s Eve in East Oakland. Police said Lee was shot near the intersection of 104th Avenue and Walnut Street shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 31.
Hundreds of community members gathered on Wednesday to remember Lee at Alliance Academy, where he went to school, according to the Oakland Unified School District’s Facebook page. The funeral, which is open to the public, was scheduled for 11 a.m. today at the Acts Full Gospel Church at 1034 66th Ave.
