A missing Daly City man has been identified as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred in Pacifica on Tuesday evening, authorities said.
Ishwar Patel, 71, was reported missing around 8 p.m. Tuesday after he failed to return to his Daly City home.
The California Highway Patrol issued a Silver Alert and said he suffered from a medical condition and was possibly disoriented.
That same night, a pedestrian was struck and killed around 7:40 p.m. in the first block of Palmetto Avenue in Pacifica, police said. The man hit was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the San Mateo County coroner’s office, the victim was Patel.
Pacifica police Capt. Joe Spanheimer confirmed that the missing man and the pedestrian were the same person.
The driver who struck him fled afterward and has not yet been found, Spanheimer said today.
The vehicle is described only as a gray or dark-colored car that may be a Chevrolet Monte Carlo or a Dodge Charger. The car was last seen heading north on Palmetto Avenue, police said.
